WELCOME TO THAT JAIME’S HORROR FEST 2012!

HUGE UPDATE: Starting tonight, October 2 with the viewing of GRAVE ENCOUNTERS, the horror fest will now have it’s own twitter account! I know, it’s late late late in the game but I thought this would be the most fair thing to my other followers. So if you really truly want to participate, win those prizes and don’t mind a fuck-load of tweeting from me during the flicks, then follow @TJHF2012 right now!

31 nights in October. 31 legitimate reasons to celebrate the wonderful genre that is horror. It’s the only film genre that makes me hyper, excited, and any other verbs that could be illegal…and it needs to be paid tribute. I first tried this daily viewing fest last year, and it was mostly a success story. Learning from last year’s attempt, the 2nd annual THAT JAIME’S HORROR FEST is looking to slash its way into the beating heart of my passion for this month. Blood splats included.

How it works is very simple: starting Monday, October 1, I’ll be viewing & live-tweeting through a carefully selected list of scary movies (or maybe I threw a dart at names, you don’t know!). One per night, starting at 9 pm (central time), for 31 straight nights. The formats for each flick differentiate between DVD, Blu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, VOD, and a fun night at the theater. Unlike last year, this October will have a very gracious amount of horror flicks playing on the big screen (which is how it should be).

Now where do YOU come into all of this? Well the whole inspiration of “audience participation” came from my buddy Ryan last year. It happened almost mid-way through, so the best I could do was offer an Xbox Live solution (it didn’t work out so well). I was unprepared, and my love of twitter (not to mention its kindness towards me) wasn’t as huge as it is now. But I’ve decided to give the participation angle another go…and I’ve also decided to be generous.

Flat-out, what’s it in for you if follow me on twitter & interact during my live tweet sessions? Here it is: Every week, on a random night, at some random point during the movie, I’ll be giving away 2 prizes. I’ll ask a very specific (or loosely related) trivia question pertaining to the film. And it goes a little something like this…

**SECOND PERSON TO ANSWER CORRECTLY GETS A FREE THEATER-SIZE MYSTERY HORROR POSTER**

Honestly, thank my 2 years of being a promotional manager at my local movie theater for all this. It’s the giveaway bug in me. Now of course, there are some rules, as well as some notes:

**RULE: The potential giveaway nights will be every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night (with the exception of October 1). I chose those nights because we all have shit to do on the weekends. If you still want to interact on any of the other nights, make yourself at home bud. For special reasons, there will also be a giveaway on October 5 & 31.
**RULE: The potential giveaway night will not be announced until the morning of. I’ll tweet it, as well as make it very clear on this blog post.
**RULE: During the live tweet participation, when you attempt to answer the trivia question (as well as simply participating) please make sure to include the hashtag #TJHF2012 or else it will not count.
**RULE: Once you win, whether it is first or second place and on any given week, you are not eligible to win again. Don’t be greedy. Give others a chance.
**And as much as it pains you, you have to follow me on twitter in order to participate (@TJHF2012).

***NOTE: There will be a giveaway for the special VOD viewing of V/H/S (October 5). Due to its special viewing circumstance, the trivia question will be asked AFTER the movie is over…and there will only be one question.
***NOTE: There will be a grand-prize giveaway on the last night. Details of what will be given away will be revealed midway through October, however please note that in order to win, it will incorporate the previous weeks.

I know I don’t have to do any of this, but I want to. Let’s all celebrate this glorious month. October is about to begin shortly, and we’re kicking this it off with the already-classic THE CABIN IN THE WOODS. Happy viewing you horror-loving tweetheads…and cheers.

SPECIAL QUICK NOTE: If you’re going to be participating, that is awesome. Please know and understand though, that this originally was meant as a solo thing. Since it’s (happily) no longer the case, some things need to be said: It really really helps if you’ve seen the dated movie BEFORE the live tweet fest. However, if you haven’t or if you’ve been saving your first viewing for this occasion (I have for a few of the titles), I promise I will do my absolute best to not spoil anything. I’m anti-spoiler by nature, but it won’t be easy during a live tweet fest. And if you think about it, if you’re watching with me, technically I’m not spoiling anything since you just saw it! Nevertheless, I’ll make sure that whatever I say won’t be damaging because this note isn’t just for the participants; it’s for everyone following me. Participants, I hope you can respect this. And I know I can’t control what you say, so please be courteous.
